It’s been a month since Rev It Up came to Reliant Park, and what a wild ride it has been. Racing enthusiasts from around the country competed in various cities for a chance to win a 2008 Corvette. The national racing competition finally came to a close as G.J. Dixon, of Scarsdale, NY was crowned 2007 National Champion. Houston’s Christopher Ramey gave Dixon some serious competition as they fought for the best score and the title. Dixon’s run made Rev It Up history as the first driver to beat a pro driver’s score in the Corvette Shootout.

As the Rev It Up 2007 National Champion, Dixon will be awarded the new Corvette, as well as a special Corvette-inspired “Jake” Electric Guitar by Paul Reed Smith signed by Chevy’s American Le Mans Series Corvette Racing Team drivers. For beating the pro driver’s time and score, Dixon received an extra bonus prize, a race helmet signed by the entire Chevrolet Racing Team.

Congratulations to Dixon for beating the pro driver’s score, you may want to quit your day job. As for Christopher Ramey, I’m sure he will be bigger and better at next year’s Rev It Up competition.

The world’s largest performance driving school and national racing competition came to Reliant Park this past Saturday as car enthusiasts from all over Houston competed in this one day event. Although the weather has been unpredictable lately we were pleased to have a great day without any rain. As expected, the Corvette Clubs of Greater Houston (CCGH) were out in full force on Saturday as the VIP area was filled to capacity with all types of Corvettes. Visitors and participants alike stopped to admire the Corvettes that lined the front entrance of the event.

There were many things that visitors could see and do while waiting for their scheduled driving competition time. Activities included a Corvette Performance Course, clinics with racing/performance driving instructors, a Chevy Test Drive Course, an Enduro Kart track, a chance to ride with a professional racer in a 2007 Z06, and a display of the latest Chevy cars/trucks– including the Camaro Concept.

The highlight of Rev It Up was the driving competition, where entrants race specially prepped Chevy Cobalt SS coupes. The ultimate goal was to be the fastest driver without hitting any markers. Individual scores were then compared against the Pro Driver Index and the winner was determined by the highest score. I would like to say that our group did well but by no means did we place at the top, the competition was fierce. I will state, for the record, that I drove the Cobalt like a champ and didn’t knock one marker over. I guess driving the Karts at Track 21 did me some good.

We are proud to say that Christopher Ramey (from Houston) won the Houston event and took the lead in the national championship by a large margin. As the Houston Event Champion, Ramey was awarded a two-day “Grand Prix Specialty” course for two people at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving and a custom Corvette-inspired “Jake” guitar by Paul Reed Smith Guitars. Christopher now goes on to compete for the grand prize, a 430-horsepower 2008 Corvette. Good luck Christopher, we know you are destined to be the National Champion.

Special thanks goes out to all of the Corvette owners and CCGH members who came out to show off their cars, as usual you were lookin’ good.

The Rev It Up event is the world’s largest performance driving school and national racing competition. For $25 dollars participants receive professional driving instruction with on-track clinics. The classes teach advanced car control, grip dynamics, and how to identify the fastest racing line.

After the instruction is over, participants compete in race-prepped Cobalt SS coupes on the track for the best time. The fastest drivers of the day then go on to compete in 400-HP Corvettes for prizes. The event winner gets a 2-day Bondurant Driving School class, and the ultimate winner takes home a new 2008 Corvette!

For Corvette and Camaro owners special car club parking is available. Just show up driving a Corvette or Camaro and access is granted to the VIP parking area.

Velocity Corvette Club has been working with the promoters to have a secondary Corvette club competition. All Corvette Clubs of Greater Houston (CCGH) club members are invited to compete for the best Corvette Club driver in Houston.

Represent your Corvette club and compete against the other clubs for the title. This secondary competition will compare the track times for all registered Corvette Club competitors and determine who is the best driver among the Corvette owners in Houston.
