Chevrolet had just produced the 1.5 millionth Corvette. It was a white convertible. Congratulations GM on reaching yet another production milestone.

2010 Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 enhancements

For 2010 the big news is about the return of the Corvette Grand Sport. The Grand Sport will replace the Z51 option and also offers the Heritage Edition that adds the distinctive hash mark graphics to the front fenders. However, I think while the software and computer updates that comprise the Z06 and ZR1 launch control system have more hidden performance value than would be apparent.

I was expecting a horsepower boost for the Z06 this year, but remembered that most of the performance is wasted with an impressive burnout at launch. Getting the maximum horsepower and torque of the Z06 to the ground is a huge problem for the average driver, so this forumul should balance out the Nissan GT-R equation with an impressive 0-60 MPH and ¼ mile ET improvement for the Corvette.

The GrandSport Offers:

6.2-liter LS3 V8 436 horsepower and 428 lb-ft
Six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission
Manual Transmission also gets a dry-sump oiling system, differential cooler, and a rear-mounted battery
14-inch with six-piston calipers in front and 13.4-inch with four-piston
Revised shocks and springs with heavier duty stabilizer bars
18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels (Front: 275/35ZR18 Rear: 325/30ZR19)

General Motors Corp has told U.S. dealers it is accelerating its timetable for closing about 1,700 dealerships as it rushes to meet a June 1 deadline to restructure under U.S. government oversight, people with knowledge of the discussions said.

Corvette Plant Will Temporarily Close For A Week

As another sign of the financial crisis.

The Corvette Factory in Bowling Green is one of two General Motors factories that will temporarily close for a week to keep inventory in line with lower demand.

A GM spokesman says the factory will be idled the week of December first.

Corvette sales are off nine-percent through the first nine months of the year.

The plant employs about 900 workers.

GM releases official power rating for 2009 ZR-1

The 2009 Corvette ZR-1′s Supercharged LS9 6.2 (376 cubic inches) liter V-8 will have an output of 638 horsepower, 604 ft lbs of peak torque and exceed a top speed of 200 miles per hour.

This will be the first factory built Vette with forced induction, based on the spec sheets that means 103 hp per liter, or 1.7 hp per cubic inch. GM also claims that “the ZR-1 will have the most fuel efficent 600 plus horspower car on the market.”

Only 2000 ZR-1′s will be made for 2009 and will sell for an expected $100,000. The King of Corvettes goes on sale this summer. Long live the King.

SEMA 2007: The Corvette in Show

Last week Velocity Corvette went to Las Vegas to attend the 2007 SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show. The SEMA Show is one of the largest trade shows of its kind so naturally the best and most innovative products are showcased. The show is only open to industry buyers and provides a look into the newest parts, tools, and components on the market. This was our first time to attend SEMA so when we arrived at the Las Vegas Convention Center we quickly realized that there would be a lot of ground to cover.

With more than 2,000 exhibitors participating in the show we were on a mission to find the latest Corvette trends related to racing, performance, and accessories. We will be highlighting the product lines from the following manufactures in the near future:

Procharger
Restek Silcosteel

Overall it was an informative and successful trip. After talking with the exhibitors and looking at all of the new products it’s too bad that I didn’t hit the jackpot or win the Z06 as I would have plenty of modification choices to make.

Corvetteforum acquired by Internet Brands

The online Corvette community has changed recently with the sale of CorvetteForum.com to Internet Brands. No immediate changes are planned for the Corvette forums, but based on the some of the responses the change in site ownership may mean an exodus of some members and vendors to the competing forum DigitalCorvettes.com.
